Western Europe reigns supreme on The Road to The International with all four teams securing upper bracket seeds for the Playoffs portion of the tournament.
Gaimin Gladiators (GG) and G2.iG closed out the decider series in Copenhagen with the latter giving the Europeans a run for their money.
Game one went down in just 25 minutes, as Gaimin excelled once again at taking an early laning stage advantage and capitalising on it. While they went for a draft built for constant aggression, G2.iG were reliant on big ultimate timings and perfect team execution centred on Thiay "JT-" Jun Wen’s signature Magnus. Unfortunately for G2.iG, they fell behind on key item timings, and could not survive GG’s five man Dota played around Marcus "Ace" Christensen’s Uderlord Fiend’s Gate.
For game two, G2.iG managed to snatch Sand King, along with a Mirana-Shadow Demon arrow set-up, which gave them a lot of trouble in game one. And despite struggling through the early to mid stage of the game, they still had all the tools to hold off long enough for their Luna to come online and melt down GG’s buildings in one big push.
The big battle for hot meta heroes continued in the third game. GG secured a heavy right click line-up with a carry Windranger, offlane Visage, and a support Marci while G2.iG looked at how to keep a carry Lina protected in hopes of repeating their feat from the previous game. However, GG were net superior in map movements, team fight control, and had better engage and disengage options with a mid-lane Storm Spirit. Much like in game one, it took them about 25 minutes to breach the high ground and sealed the deal around ten minutes later with an Aegis and Roshan banner on their side to make things smooth.
Unfortunately for CN Dota, G2.iG going to the lower bracket rounds means that the Chinese region will have only one team fighting through the upper bracket, namely Xtreme Gaming.
The action on the Road to The International resumes this Sunday, September 8 with all upper bracket quarterfinals going to be played.
