BetBoom Team defeat Gaimin Gladiators to claim PGL Wallachia Season 5 championship

This marks BetBoom Team's third tournament win as an organisation, and their second of the year so far.

PGL Wallachia Season 5 concluded on Monday (30 June), with Eastern European Dota 2 powerhouse BetBoom Team lifting the trophy at PGL’s Bucharest studio. The team took down Gaimin Gladiators, 3-1, in the grand finals—a surprisingly commanding victory—to claim the championship title and a whopping US$300,000 in prize money.

This marks the third tournament victory for the organisation, and their second this year. After nearly three years of inconsistent results since their formation, BetBoom secured their first Tier 1 victory at BLAST Slam I in December of last year. Their second title came in March, when they swept Gaimin Gladiators in the finals of FISSURE Universe: Episode 4.

Although their performances in tournaments earlier this year were inconsistent, BetBoom have improved with stable placements this season so far. This PGL Wallachia victory comes right on the heels of their runner-up finish at DreamLeague Season 26.

BetBoom’s Wallachia Season 5 journey recapped

While BetBoom looked incredibly strong toward the end of the tournament, they initially struggled during the Group Stage. The team was defeated by underdogs such as Edge and Natus Vincere (NAVI), putting them at risk of elimination. Fortunately, they managed to secure just enough wins—defeating Virtus.pro, Xtreme Gaming, and Team Tidebound—to narrowly qualify for the Playoffs.

Despite the rocky start, BetBoom surprised everyone with a dominant 2–0 victory over Team Spirit in the first round of the Playoffs. However, they suffered a narrow defeat against Team Liquid in the next round, sending them on a grueling lower bracket run.

BetBoom went on to eliminate NAVI, knocked out regional rivals Spirit in a huge upset, and then exacted their revenge over Liquid in the lower bracket finals to earn their spot in the grand finals, where Gaimin Gladiators awaited.

The finale began with a fairly even first game, though it quickly spiraled in BetBoom’s favor around the 30-minute mark. The second game was entirely one-sided, with BetBoom snowballing from the start to a 31-minute win. With their backs against the wall, the Gladiators adjusted their drafts for game three, securing stronger lane control that led to a much-needed win.

In the fourth game, BetBoom dominated the mid-game, rapidly gaining net worth. However, they struggled to break into the enemy’s high ground, facing heavy resistance from Tinker and Templar Assassin.

This led to an hour-long back-and-forth, and just when Gaimin Gladiators saw a flicker of hope, BetBoom shut it down with well-coordinated counterplays. Despite their strong defense, the Gladiators ultimately waved the white flag at the 66-minute mark.

New expectations are set

PGL’s Wallachia series is one of the top Dota 2 events on the calendar, offering the standard Tier 1 prize pool of US$1 million for the world’s best teams. This particular event served as an important checkpoint to evaluate team form, as it is the final major tournament before the Esports World Cup 2025's Dota 2 competition—the pinnacle of ESL’s Dota 2 circuit.

Although BetBoom have long been considered one of Dota 2's powerhouses, this stellar result just ahead of the landmark event naturally elevates the team’s status. BetBoom will now be viewed as one of the primary favorites to claim a share of the US$3 million prize pool.
