Once again Team Liquid overpowered BetBoom Team, this time to seize an upper bracket placement for The International 2024 playoffs.
The Seeding Decider portion of The International 2024 is well underway. No teams will be eliminated in the Seeding Decider, but the results will dictate the starting path in the playoffs. The winners will advance to the upper bracket while the losers will head to the lower bracket.
The day started with Xtreme Gaming sweeping through Talon 2:0 – posing no surprises as many fans had pegged Xtreme as one of the strong contenders to take the Aegis.
The second series was a matchup between EEU and WEU. Historically Team Liquid have come out on top in their matchups against BB Team, but the EEU team is no stranger to pushing them, and other teams, against the wall when needed. Unfortunately for BB Team, they could only push Liquid so much – not enough.
Team LiquidvsBetBoom Team 2:1
The draft happened quickly with each team rapidly choosing picks and bans. BB team went with a first pick Timbersaw and last pick Monkey King. In the coach interview before the game Blitz said that they were caught off by the 1st pick Timbersaw from BB team but that he was sure they realized if they don't play tempo against TL, they would lose in just 20 minutes.
Well, the game didn't take 20 minutes, it took almost 50 so they must have learned something. The EEU team had the lead and the tempo, but couldn't keep the momentum. Between the late game Luna, incredible itemization on Beastmaster, and the tanky support Medusa for Samuel "Boxi" Svahn (thanks Boxi for setting up another new pub trend, we still haven't recovered from Morphling.) Team Liquid were able to take the first game victory and advantage.
For the second match Team Liquid picked up the Beastmaster once again and showed the early Mirana. In the post-draft interview, Boolk said they were ready for the Mirana heading into the game and they felt confident. And confident they were – closing out in just 23 minutes in a whirlwind of a game that came out of nowhere. A fantastic support duo performance, incredible rotations & spell casting, and on-point itemization allowed BetBoom to tie up the series and reset the stakes.
The final match saw Vitalie "Save-" Melnic's Batrider and BetBoom had a solid and powerful draft, looking like they were feeling good coming off the last win… but the early game was not good for him at all. Losing his runes, his stacks, and his levels, Save's game was already lost. Looking drastically different than in the 2nd game, BB Team really struggled to do much of anything except take the loss.
Team Liquid secured a trip to the upper brackets in the playoffs and will play against Xtreme Gaming.
BetBoom will start TI2024 playoffs in the lower brackets – a best-of-three series, but elimination looming over their heads nonetheless – as they go head-to-head against Talon.
The next series on the menu starts at 16:00 CEST
It will be followed by the final series of the day at 19:00 CEST
