Another season, another Gaimin Gladiators grand finals; ESL One Kuala Lumpur 2023

The 2023-24 season just got started with ESL One Kuala Lumpur 2023 as the first LAN and Gaimin Gladiators are already the first grand finalists. 

ESL One Kuala Lumpur 2023 is the first LAN of the new Dota 2 season following The International 2023. Typically roster shuffles really shake up the scene and results are often unpredictable or unexpected. To make things even more interesting this year, Valve dropped a big patch update just yesterday, hours before the lower-bracket elimination series.

But the more things change, the more they stay the same…. sometimes. 

Gaimin Gladiators and Grand Finals, name a more iconic duo. 

It seems that no roster shuffles from their opponents have overpowered them and no patch has thwarted them. Once again, this team is sitting in the grand finals position. 

They stomped Azure Ray two months ago to reach the grand finals at TI12. Today, they have done the same, dumpstering the Chinese team in both games to sweep through 2:0. GG made AR look like a last-minute pubstack hoping to find a spot in some open qualifiers. 

Gaimin Gladiators appeared in the grand finals of all three majors (incidentally taking the title and trophy for them all) and The International (with a second-place finish) last year. 

Win or lose tomorrow, it seems they are well on the road to another repeat of last season. 

The action resumes today with another lower-bracket elimination series.
