Two more teams were sent packing today at the first LAN of the 2023-24 season as ESL One Kuala Lumpur 2023 closed out with another two elimination series.
ESL One Kuala Lumpur 2023's narrative was somewhat derailed thanks to Valve dropping a huge patch just three hours before elimination day in the playoffs. Instead of prepping for favored heroes and spotted weaknesses, teams were scrambling to figure out what heroes had changed and looked into the impact of the new items, among other things.
In the post-win interview with Team Liquid's standin player, and clearly interview spokesperson of the event, Jonáš "SabeRLight-" Volek, he didn't even know what the Omniknight's spells were until after it was picked and he had to read up on it.
Adaptation is the name of the game now. Being able to approach a new meta and changes well enough to overpower and outplay opponents is crucial in times like this.
Tundra EsportsvsBetBoom Team 0:2
After sending Team Secret home earlier in the day, Team Liquid was able to take a rest while BetBoom went head-to-head with Tundra Esports. The eastern European team picked up Sladar for Egor "Nightfall" Grigorenko in both matches, and destroyed Tundra both times.
The last series of the day was the only one that went the full three games to determine the winner. Team Falcons's heroes were buffed but Team Liquid made it work. And today they came out not on top not once, but twice. Their experience will give them an advantage over opponents moving forward as they secured a top-four placement and will continue to advance through the lower brackets.
The action resumes tomorrow, Saturday, December 16th at 05:00 CET with Lower Bracket Quarterfinals elimination series.
