Team Secret drop from ESL One Kuala Lumpur 2023 at the hands of Team Liquid

Team Secret was quite unlucky to be the first team eliminated from the ESL One Kuala Lumpur 2023 playoffs after a rather large new patch dropped.

ESL One Kuala Lumpur 2023 resumed with three lower-bracket elimination series today in front of a live audience. But that was perhaps overshadowed by the fact that just three or so hours a super large patch dropped, sending all teams into uncertainties.

Three teams will be eliminated today – with Team Secret being the first on the chopping block – unlucky.

Team SecretvsTeam Liquid 0:2

In the first game in the new patch, we already saw some new heroes, despite not having enough time to review everything including the new items. Team Liquid didn't seem to be all that phased though and were able to take a very convincing first game lead.

After a pause for technical issues long enough for fans to rewatch the first game, we finally started the second game.

In the second match Team Liquid picked up Slardar, who is continuing to dominate even after the patch.

In the second game devastating late-game damage from Team Liquid, there wasn't much that Team Secret could do to turn anything around.  Team Liquid seemed to have Team Secret's number in the last patch and clearly had it again in this new patch. Team Liquid dumpstered Team Secret 2:0 to be able to advance further.

Team Secret goes home in 7-8th place with $47,500 and 780 EPT points.

Team Liquid will continue through the lower brackets to the quarterfinals to face off against Team Falcons later today.

The action resumes with another Lower Bracket Round 1 elimination series next.
