G2 Esports enters Dota 2 scene with Invictus Gaming partnership

One of the biggest esports organisations, G2 Esports secures a second team in the MOBA genre and steps for the first time in the Dota 2 world by partnering with Invictus Gaming.

The European organisation which hosts teams in nine different esports titles, including League of Legends, VALORANT, CS2, Fortnite, Rainbow Six Siege, Call of Duty and more, is now expanding for the first time in the Chinese market through this collaboration with iG.

This marks the second partnership G2 is launching in Asia. In 2022 the organisation has also partnered with Blacklist to create its first Filipino team in Wild Rift.

“China has continuously been a priority market for us and we’re happy to finally field a local team for our millions of Chinese fans to support,” said Alban Dechelotte, Chief Executive Officer of G2 Esports in the official announcement. “In addition to a new market, we’re also expanding into DOTA 2 for the first time, which is a huge moment for us. Both China and DOTA have been at the forefront of our minds for a long time but until now, we haven’t found the right fit that would work in the long term. We know partnering with iG - who have a Worlds trophy and an Aegis, will enable us to build the best team and we can bring the G2 way to yet another region and a new esport. This really is the best time to be a G2 fan.”

According to Jack Chen, G2.iG Manager, this partnership has been in the working since TI12. The official announcement came to light on the G2 social media accounts three days before the first tournament where G2.iG will make their debut, ESL One Malaysia 2023. The roster secured its spot at the final event of the year via Chinese regional qualifiers where Invictus Gaming went undefeated through the whole bracket.
