The Dota 2 TI12 Compendium has been released

With a little over two weeks before TI12 begins, the Compendium for the event has braced the game of Dota 2.

When Valve announced earlier in the Dota 2 season that there would be no Battle Pass this year, there were questions on how The International 2023 (TI12) would be funded. The answer is from compendium sales – The Dota 2 TI12 Compendium is here! The compendium comes as a part of a larger patch which also includes updates to profiles.

So what does the compendium contain? Let’s start with the price – the TI12 Compendium comes in two packages – Standard and Upgraded.

Like all previous compendiums or battle passes, 25% of the money made from the sale of the TI12 Compendium will add to the TI12 prize pool, on top of the $1.6 million baseline from Valve. In the first few hours, the prize pool has managed to cross $1.8 million.

This year, things appear a bit different. It isn’t the same screen which has the levels on it.

Here are a few things to look forward to in this year’s compendium.

One thing right off the bat that seems to be better is the fantasy for The International. Dota 2 statistician and regular fantasy player Ben “Noxville” Steenhuisen had some good things to say about it.

This is what Valve had to say about everything on offer in the compendium:

"We've brought back and improved some old favorites like Fantasy and Predictions. We're also introducing some new activities, ranging from the light-hearted (Bingo) to the seriously formidable (The Road to the International Challenge).

Everything you'll accomplish through the Compendium earns you progress towards rewards. Like the Compendium challenges, all the rewards this year are built around the players and the event. There's an International 2023 HUD, permanent chatwheel lines, and a physical collector's Aegis, along with lots of new content for your Profile Showcase (see below), including team and player stickers."

There are more than a few things missing this year. Cavern Crawl isn’t to be seen anywhere, but in place of that, we have the Map Challenges and the Player Challenges. There is no special game mode like Aghanim’s Labyrinth – that’s one everyone used to love! But the biggest miss, perhaps, is the Immortal Treasures. Treasures I, II and sometimes even III used to drive players to get higher levels and spend more on the Battle Pass. The arrival of the special Immortal Treasure sale was an iconic event in the Road to The International, which was always marked by a spike in the TI prize pool. But that won’t be a part of this year’s experience. There is no arcana vote either. The newest arcanas will arrive after The International ends.

"We're already working on future updates with different focuses and we know you're excited to learn more about the next big patch, and the next set of arcanas, and everything else we're working on — but that's for after the champions claim the Aegis. For now, Seattle welcomes a return of the finest players in the world, and we can't wait. We'll see you on the Road to the International."

Definitely an adjustment to be made as compared to what Dota 2 players have gotten used to in the past few years, but there is still a lot to explore in the TI12 Compendium.

As we get closer to TI12, more features will start getting unlocked. Till then, you can enjoy putting some heroes on the cliff on your profile in the hopes of invoking some past memories of Artour “Arteezy” Babaev!
