And so the journey to another major comeback begins.
Old G are officially a part of the 2023 Dota Pro Circuit after claiming a spot in the Western European Division II for the Spring Tour via open and closed qualifiers battles. The roster is slightly adjusted from the previous tour’s open qualifiers, but two of the TI8 and TI9 OG champions are still on the team.
Sebastien "Ceb" Debs and Topias "Topson" Taavitsainen are now joined by Roman "Resolut1on" Fomynok and Kartik "Kitrak" Rathi, which will make an interesting storyline in the upcoming Division II battle for promotion.
Starting on April 5, when Division II matches are set to begin, Resolut1on will be competing against his former teammates from Team Secret. Along with Baqyt "Zayac" Emiljanov, Resolut1on played with Team Secret at The International 2022 and reached the grand finals. However, after placing second at TI11, Secret went on an abrupt decline and got relegated to Division II at the binging of the new DPC season.
Following the shocking fall from grace, both Reso and Zayac were moved to inactive status on the Team Secret roster. During the time off, in between DPC Tours, Reso has joined forces with Old G and will now fight for promotion in Division I of the Summer Tour. While Resolut1on kept the offlane role when he joined Old G, Ceb has fully switched to position 4, and is joining him in the hard lane.
With the new roster, Old G had an undefeated run through the open and closed qualifier legs to make it to the DPC. There are only two promotion slots up for grabs in Division II and besides Team Secret and Old G, Alliance are also looking to secure one of those, making the WEU Division II of the Spring Tour quite interesting to follow.
Playing in the DPC also means a secured presence at the regional qualifiers for this year’s The International and for Ceb in particular this can mark another huge comeback. Earlier this month, OG released a documentary focused on Ceb’s incredible return from retirement from last year, when he stood in for the new OG roster and helped them to claim the ESL One Stockholm Major.
