Match-fixing in SEA; OMEGA esports loses DPC spot and three players banned

OMEGA esports, along with some current and previous players, has been banned for match-fixing.

Once again a match-fixing scandal has hit Dota 2. This time it has reared its ugly head in the SEA region.

Although the DPC 2021-2022 Season 'tour 1' has just begun with the open qualifiers for the SEA region, the time period from when the offense occurred took place between September and October for the OB Asian Arena.

Omega came in ninth place with a 6:14 record, during which some of their plays and games caught the attention of the tournament administration who then did their due diligence and reported and provided Valve with all of the evidence.

Since then Omega had some roster changes including Van leaving for Execration, as well as Piolz and Hiro parting ways with the team. Omega then picked up Ramz, Forev, and Eren for the new season. However, since the organization along with two of the current members was banned, they were stripped of their spot - leaving Ramz, Forev, and Eren without a team or place in the DPC.

Omega rose to Division 1 at the end of the last DPC 2020-21 season. With their ban in place, Boom will be able to reclaim the spot they lost in Divison 1. Execration will be required to replace Van with an eligible player to compete.

Last year, in the DPC 2020-21 the European lower division team Meta4Pro withdrew from DPC 2021 Season 1 after suspecting one player of match-fixing. In addition, two lower-division NA teams, Pecado Squad Gaming and Wind and Rain, were banned from competing in the DPC and any Valve events due to match-fixing.

Just two months prior to that Newbee, Zeng "Faith" Hongda and Xu "Moogy" Han received lifetime bans for match-fixing in the last Minor qualifiers of DPC 2020 season.

Despite the lifetime bans that have been applied by Valve starting in 2016, match-fixing still seems to rear its ugly head from time to time. Take a look at our deep dive into the subject HERE
