OG has finally broken their silence and has spoken out about Ceb's behaviors in a recent pub match.
Approximately one month ago OG's longtime coach-then-TI8 championship player Sébastien "7ckngMad/Ceb" Debs came under fire for comments in a recent pub game where he was documented to be using xenophobic insults against Russians.
The incident prompted much debate and backlash among both the community and professionals within the Dota 2 scene alike. Some of the talks were positive with thoughts and ideas on how to address the seemingly rampant toxicity problem that plagues the scene. Some was just pointing fingers at each other and past behaviors and examples. In the end, the most glaring piece was OG had remained silent on the issue.
Now, heading into EPICENTER Major, a few weeks following the incident, OG released an official statement on facebook.
It has been a weeks now since Sébastien’s offense happened. Nowadays, we believe it is important to take the time to read the situation. We listened, read and understood what happened along with the different reactions and opinions. The goal being for us to act in the fairest way possible, since no clear rules can serve as reference.
The organization then explains the steps involved and what was reviewed behind closed doors during their period of silence before finally making a statement and decision.
In the end, our decision is the following:
Seb will give up all the gains he might earn at the Epicenter Major to a charity of his choice that will be made public. In addition to that, we fined him the equivalent of his monthly salary. He also guarantees that such situation shall never occur again on pain of a stronger punishment.
For those that might not remember or were not aware, Alexei "Solo" Berezin spoke up about the incident, calling out Ceb's behavior and Valve for not addressing the issue, going so far as to threaten to boycott EPICENTER Major. So, the two teams have now worked out an arrangement.
Setting an example is important, but we believe that we should take the opportunity to try and evolve as a community. Therefore, we are actively working with Virtus Pro on proposing something to better our environment. Meanwhile, to show some love and some dotes (because in the end we just want to play play play), we are trying to organize a show match involving both our teams at the Epicenter Major. EPICENTER Major
The last DPC event will take place in Moscow, Russia at the VTB Ice Palace June 22-30, with 16 teams competing for the lion's share of the $1,000,000 prize pool and last of the DPC points.
