The first two groups have been played out and as expected, Virtus.pro and PSG.LGD Gaming have taken the top seeds for their respective groups at the Chongqing Major.
The first day of the second DPC 2018-2019 Major, The Chongqing Major, has already come to an end. Both Groups A and B have been played out in their entirety, charting the playoff journey for eight teams so far.
Group A
It was little surprise to see that Virtus.pro were the leaders of the Group A pack. They were, in fact, the favorites of the group and quite possibly the tournament. The CIS powerhouse ended with a 4:2 record, having taken both of their series played. Interestingly, the team did lose the first game in both of their matchups, seeming to have been warming up and trying some new things out before slamming down their competitive spirit on their opponents after.
EHOME slide into the second seed for an upper bracket playoff placement. The Chinese team has just come off a spectacular run in the Bucharest Minor, ultimately having taken the championship title and securing their spot at the Chongqing Major. The squad is proving that it wasn't just a fluke and they still have the same focus and control from last week.
Chaos Esports Club managed to take one win off EHOME, ensuring that they at least ended their day with one victory under their belt.
Group B
PSG.LGD is still on top of their game, taking the first seed in Group B. The iconic and much loved Chinese roster went through the group stage having lost only one match to the North American team - Forward Gaming.
Although Forward Gaming had a formidable appearance, they were not able to secure the second seed for the upper brackets. After taking a game off of PSG.LGD, they were able to take a series from Thunder Predator and a game off of Team Secret. However, it wasn't enough as it was Team Secret who ultimately took the series and upper road in the playoffs.
South America had once again taken up residence in the bottom slot as Thunder Predator suffered the same fate as Chaos Esports Club, ending the day with only one win to their name.
The action will resume tomorrow with both Groups C and D being played out to finish up the group stage portion of the event. Both groups will kick off at 03:00 CET.
The Chongqing Major will run from January 19-27, with sixteen of the world’s best Dota 2 teams competing for $1,000,000 (US) and 15,000 Dota 2 Pro Circuit (DPC) points. It will be held in the BLOOMAGE Cultural and Sports Center in Chongqing, China, and is being run by StarLadder and ImbaTV.
