In an interview with joinDOTA, the project manager of DreamLeague, Christian 'Hellspawn' Lord, attempted to answer the recent accusations of mismanagement made by certain participants of the tournament, such as Team Tinker.
The first season of ASUS ROG DreamLeague was rather successful despite small scheduling issues that occurred during the online phase of the tournament. However, the tournament administrators have been dealing with several issues during the second season which started early in October, with the most important being Team Tinker's accusations of bad and unfair management.
To get deeper into detail, Team Tinker complained about the following:
- They were given a default loss despite asking (and arguably getting permission) to reschedule their match against Aftershock Gaming.
- They were forced to use stand-in players because their opponents could not deploy a full roster.
In an interview with joinDOTA, Christian 'Hellspawn' Lord, the project manager of ASUS ROG DreamLeague put the blame on both Team Tinker and the tournament's unclear rules in case of scheduling conflicts.
To be more specific, he stated :
- The admins in charge informed the team that they were given a default loss in their encounter, but the team's manager seemed to be unaware of the decision.
- When the admins agreed to avert the default loss and hold the match on the next day, Aftershock were unable to use their complete roster. Thus they were forced to play with stand-in players, and therefore be in natural disadvantage. In return, Team Tinker had to use players outside their official roster to play on equal terms with Aftershock.
Along with Team Tinker, Secret Team's Tai 'Simba/Fly' Aizik complained about the match delays, as the players were forced to stay up until morning for their DreamLeague commitments. To that, Hellspawn answered that he was unaware of the issues that caused the delays, and stated that the affected match was scheduled to be played much earlier. He also stated that this was an isolated incident and not a common occurrence.
While Hellspawn was mostly apologetic for the inconvenience caused to the teams, he stated that he feels rather aggravated by the community's behavior towards the tournament's administration, especially due to the fact that almost everyone refused to examine the organization's side of the story.
DreamLeague continues on Monday, October 20th, with the Asian groupstage. For more information on the tournament, check out our coverage hub here. Live broadcasting of the matches will be provided by Dreamhack Studio.
