The Grand Final of WEC is now over, with Evil Geniuses taking down Cloud9 with a total score of 4-1 to earn the first place in the tournament. With their victory, they earn the $97,600 first place prize, while C9 will have to return home with $32,500.
The first major post-TI4 LAN tournament is now over, and Evil Geniuses have added yet another title to their prestigious collection. Their final opponent was another Western squad, Cloud9, that managed to reach the Grand Final through the Upper Bracket yesterday. However, their WB advantage was not enough to guarantee them their victory, as EG took them down in two consecutive best-of-three series to earn the gold in World eSports Championship.
The second series of the day was rather one-sided compared to the first, with Evil Geniuses showing an overall better performance both in terms of drafting and execution. For the first match, C9 used a physical damage oriented lineup with Visage, Drow Ranger and Lycan being the main damage dealers. While the burst potential seemed to trouble the Americans for the first few minutes, several consecutive mistakes by C9 turned a 11-11 score into a 11-18 advantage for EG, allowing them to find the space they needed to run over their enemy.
The last match of the tournament was rather easy for EG, as they selected a terrifying early-game strategy with Pugna, Tidehunter and Jakiro being the core heroes. While C9's early rotations against Arteezy provided some early momentum, the early five-man push by EG did not allow EternalEnvy's Void to get anywhere near his core items, forcing out a 13-minute GG.
