Shanghai Major Preview: MVP Phoenix

MVP.Phoenix has been around the in Dota scene for a couple of years now and has been improving every year, performing well with an impressive 7-8th finish at TI5 and even beating Empire along the way. Mixing their roster with MVP.Hot6ix after TI5 was thought to make them stronger than before.

Constantly being a strong force in SEA, many expected them to qualify for the Frankfurt Major and have an easy time doing so, however they were unable to qualify for the Fall Major - unable to escape the group stages due to tiebreakers.

MVP.Phoenix roster:

Korea Sun "QO" Kim
Korea Yongmin "febby-dieu" Kim
Korea Noah "MentalProtector" Pyo
Korea Sang-Don "Forev" Lee
Korea Dooyoung "DuBu" Kim

After failing to qualify for the Fall Major, MVP brought back Sang-Don "Forev" Lee into the team and added Dooyoung "DuBu" Kim, as the new captain, replacing Taewon "March" Park and Seung "Heen" Gon Lee. So far this team has been successful, seeing that they were able to qualify for the Winter Major and has been performing impressively against the top teams of SEA.

MVP hasn't been in many tournaments since the Fall Major, even the tournaments they have been in are still going on now. However, they have qualified for season 4 of the Dota Pit League and are performing strongly in the current BTS SEA series and the SEA Weplay Season 3 Group.

Team achievements after Frankfurt Major:

4th place: Global eSports Cup Season1
Qualified for DotaPit #4 LAN event

DuBu drafts agressive lanes and rotating supports to create space for MentalProtector to farm. Their mid player QO often gets a hero who is capable of crowd control, but also outputs heavy damage, in massive team fights such as Outworld Devourer and Invoker. Forev is often given heroes with big teamfight ultimates, such as Tidehunter and Dark Seer and performs superbly on them. More often than not they win the game before the 35 minute mark due to the strong aggressive lanes they have, with Febby securing them by roaming with either his Bounty Hunter or his Enchantress.

Top Hero Picks in 6.86:

QO:
Death Prophet 86% win rate

Invoker 60% win rate

Outworld Devourer 75% win rate

Febby:
Bounty Hunter 83% win rate

Enchantress 75.% win rate

Tusk 75% win rate

MentalProtector:
Invoker 71% win rate

Juggernaut 60% win rate

Ember Spirit 80% win rate

Forev:
Dark Seer 57% win rate

Faceless Void 50% win rate

Nature's Prophet 60% win rate

DuBu:
Witch Doctor 82% win rate

Earth Spirit 67% win rate

Bane 29% win rate

These early fighting picks are bringing success to the MVP front at the moment, but they might not bring success against the top teams from other regions such as OG from Europe and LGD from China. But with the early fighting heroes, which they often draft, they could bully the other teams into conceding the game early on.
