Selangor Cyber Games Blog - Day 1 by Catosaurus

The Selangor Cyber Games really lived up to my expectations: LED screens, colorful backlit computers, exciting games and a hall swarming of gamers! There were so many people today who gathered at Encorp Strand Mall, Kota Damansara to catch MPGL live in Malaysia. The seats were full and many other spectators were forced to stand to watch the games. I'm expecting more people to watch the finals tomorrow.

I went there quite late today, at around 12 pm. G-Guard was about to play against Rex Regum Qeon and the hall was already full at that point. Rather than a BO3 format, the games were played in BO1, it was definitely less taxing to the players as well as to accomodate more games in the short span of 2 days. Not to mention it adds to the excitement to who would be the victor in the playoff stage. In addition to the new 6.84 gameplay, most of the games were extremely close and full of suspense!

There were booths selling Steelseries and Gigabyte items along with Dota 2 merchandise. There were socks, plushies, and others, but the most outstanding was the limited edition Roshan statue! It looks very cool, so do come tomorrow and check it out!

Most importantly, beautiful girls! I was more than obliged to take a photo with Iceyz and Han Xiao Ai! They are very popular female gamers in Malaysia. They are beautiful and can play Dota well. What more could one ask for?

In between the games, the host gave away MPGL wrist bands for the audience. I'll try to take a photo of it tomorrow and post it on tomorrow's blog. There was also a Gigabyte giveaway session, and 5 guys among the audience were invited onto the stage to dance with Han Xiao Ai. It was hilarious! A pity though, I didn't manage to capture the scene, I was too busy laughing. My bad. However I will try to get the video and maybe post it here tomorrow!

I took a photo of Flava and Mikelorus casting G-Guard vs Rex Regum Qeon's game. I loved Mikelorus' casting, he's got a new fan!

Danelie interviewed WinteR after G-Guard won against Rex Regum Qeon. WinteR explained his strategy to win that game.

Also, there was a cosplay session showcasing Death Prophet, Sven, Razor, Rubick, Sniper and Techies! Their costumes were neat and they even acted like the heroes they were cosplaying as. Interesting! I hope we can see more cosplayers on day 2.

I ran around a lot trying to snap photos of the people there. It was nice to see people of different races and cultures gather together to play games. Other than MPGL, there was also the Dota 2 and CS:GO Asian Cyber Games going on backstage, CS:GO tournament, FIFA15, F1 tournament and DotArena tournament. The whole place was packed with people trying to watch different games.

What's got me most excited was that I got to meet MVP.Hot6ix! They were very focused on winning their games and Heen showed confidence in his team to win most of the games in MPGL in his interview with Danelie. They were very chic and cool, and I didn't get the chance to actually talk to them yet since the hall was quite noisy. I did manage to get a group photo with them though!

On a side note, the schedule for the lower bracket playoffs are delayed to start at 9 am tomorrow since there were many tiebreaker games going on today. I believe tomorrow will be much more exciting than today! Here's the results for the playoffs today, can't wait till tomorrow!
