F0rest is considered as one of the greatest Counter-Strike players of all time, with one Major title and countless other tournament victories to his name.

Swedish Counter-Strike (CS) legend Patrik “f0rest” Lindberg has announced his retirement from competitive play on Friday (November 8) after an illustrious career of over 20 years, spanning the early days of CS 1.6 all the way to Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) and Counter-Strike 2. He is widely considered as one of the greatest CS players of all time.

The 36-year old f0rest confirmed his retirement to HLTV, revealing that the next chapter in his career will see him become a brand ambassador and content creator for Ninjas in Pyjamas (NiP), the team that he enjoyed many of his best years with.

F0rest racked up countless tournament victories throughout his prodigious career, including a Major championship with NiP in ESL One: Cologne 2014. He also played in some of the most iconic teams in the history of CS, including Fnatic and SK Gaming in CS 1.6 as well as NiP and Dignitas in CS:GO.

The official CS2 X (formerly Twitter) account even acknowledged f0rest's contributions to the game, as the legend officially hanged up his mouse and keyboard.

Looking back on f0rest's legendary career

F0rest started his professional career all the way back in 2003 when he played his first CS 1.6 tournaments, which eventually landed him a spot in his first big team in Embrace in 2004. He would even join forces with other CS 1.6 legends like Robert “RobbaN” Dahlström and Kristoffer "Tentpole" Nordlund in Begrip in 2005 before landing with Fnatic in 2006.

F0rest would reach the peak of his CS 1.6 career with Fnatic, helping the team win the likes of CPL Winter in 2006, the IEM Global Challenge Montreal in 2008, and IEM III Hanover in 2009. He would then join SK Gaming in 2010, bagging more trophies in DreamHack Summer 2011, as well as in the IEM Global Challenge New York and ESWC Paris in 2011.

F0rest would then join NiP to form one of the most iconic rosters in the game's history alongside Christopher "GeT_RiGhT" Alesund, Richard "Xizt" Landström, Adam "friberg" Friberg, and Robin "Fifflaren" Johansson – just in time for CS:GO's launch in August 2012. This NiP squad dominated the early days of CS:GO, which saw them achieve an incredible streak of 87-straight map victories that still stands to this day.

Despite losing the first two CS:GO Majors, f0rest and NiP won their crowning achievement in ESL One Cologne 2014 after defeating Fnatic in the grand finals. As other members of the NiP roster left over the years, f0rest and GeT_RiGhT continued to win more accolades in DreamHack Masters Malmö in 2016 as well as back-to-back IEM Oakland victories in 2016 and 2017.

The f0rest-GeT_RiGhT duo separated in 2019 when the latter left NiP. After spending eight years with NiP, f0rest left the organisation in January 2020 to reunite with GeT_RiGhT. While GeT_RiGhT would retire from competitive play that same year, f0rest continued playing for Dignitas until May 2022 when he was placed on the inactive roster.

While f0rest did not officially join any new teams, he would make brief tournament appearances with Fnatic and a number of other stacks until the end of 2023.

While f0rest will no longer be competing, he will still be active within the CS community as a brand ambassador and content creator for NiP on his official Twitch channel.
