"World’s Largest Video Game Tournament and Festival"size="3">
In an effort to promote the upcoming WCG 2008 Grand Final in Cologne, Germany, a 2-day gaming event known as The Samsung Experience was held in New York City. Michael Arzt, general manager of WCG USA stated:
In addition to performances by America's "A-List" gamers, representatives from Guinness Book of World Record were also present at The Samsung Experience. In an official ceremony, Guinness presented WCG with a certificate for shattering its own record for “World’s Largest Video Game Tournament and Festival.” WCG had previously held the record at 1.3 million players in 2006. However, WCG surpassed its previous record after attracting over 1.5 million gamers in 2007. A WCG entry can be found in both 2007 and 2008 editions of the Guinness World Records. Furthermore, a WCG entry can also be found in the recently released Guinness World Records 2008: Gamers Edition.
