The winner interview with HongUn I missed most parts of, but he did say this:
- "During his practice for Delta Quadrant today, he lost all the games. He thought of this build when Starcraft 2 had barely come out. He thought that even if he lose today, he wanted to show something to his fans."
So if you're one of his fans, that Carrier was for you!
Wow, JSL with ghosts. Will attempt to nuke. Hold your horses, things are crazy now. A carrier for HongUn.
***
Two-base carrier turns out to be a really scary build, HongUn wins the game, pushing out with his carriers, sentries and phoenixes. 2-0 to HongUn!
13:40 - HongUn in the top left, JSL down in the bottom right.
JSL walling off his pocket expansion with supply depots, and lays down a double barracks.
HongUn warps in a Stargate.
HongUn needs to move his troops back down to his main! Has a Colossus out.
***
HongUn moves out, goes for the attack. The mass stalkers and Colossus are just going up in the main base of the Terran. Some nice force fields, and the units are just too many. GG from JSL. 1-0 HongUn!
13:28 - JSL bottom as blue Terran, HongUn at the left as red Protoss.
***
A second barracks going up from JSL, right as his first reaper pops out. One stalker out, a sentry on the way for HongUn. Does not seem like reaper is getting any kills, all he got was some intel.
JSL missed seeing the expansion for Protoss. Expansion for Terran as well, add to that a third barracks.
HongUnPrime against JSLZenith soon!
ret with two spine crawlers right above the main ramp.
TheBest goes for the offensive again, medivac full of marauder/marines. Banelings from ret, taking them out!
More and more speedlings coming out from ret, who HAS to hold this part of the attack.
ret using drones to hold this off while waiting for more zerglings. Terran reinforcing with more marines and marauders, and they are just too much for ret's slim zergling/baneling attack. ret says gg, and TheBest moves on to Round of 16.
13:06 - ret in the bottom right, TheBest top left.
"Mr. GreedyPants," says Artosis about ret. ret, being a macro zerg, usually take risks to get his economy solid.
No fast expansion yet for the Terran, double gas double barracks.
Roach Warren on the way for ret. Expecting Hellions?
***
A Marauder Hellion attack, as seen in the beta, extremely popular back then.
ret with not a lot to defend with, would require some very great micro to hodld this off. Takes out the medivac, but the two queens are overwhelmed by the Hellion/Marauders. ret has 20 zerglings on the way, hoping to take it out.
ret does hold on, but there's a viking inside ret's base. "An overlord, all you can eat buffet," says Artosis.
ret sees no chance to defend it, and GGs. 1-1!
ret, looking a bit troubled.
ret going for 14 hatch expand. He also takes his opponent's one gas with the scouting drone.
***
TheBest tries to go for a ramp block and sends marines down to ret's expansion to try and set up a bunker. But ret is safe and goes on ultradefensive with his drones. Holds it off.
***
TheBest going for a marine, hellion and medivac attack. Moves in, against ret's zerglings, queens and some banelings. TheBest with nice micro, picking up his damaged units into the medivacs.
ret is able to hold it off.
ret harassing the gold expansion with brood lords, at the same time he drops roaches in the Terran's main base.
***
ret looking very good. A tons of roaches going at the gold expansion now that TheBest moves to defend his main base.
More and more roaches coming in, sandwiching the mech units with his zerg spitters. GG from TheBest, Dutch player ret is up 1-0!
ret has a good economy, despite the drone kills from the Terran. Will have a sizable amount of mutalisks up soon.
***
ret 20 supply ahead. TheBest going for mech, has a thor and some siege tanks. The whole map is almost covered in goo.
***
TheBest moving out with his mech force, SCVs as well. An all-in attack? ret has tons of roaches though, but he needs to take the correct position to be able to defend.
Screw defense, says ret, he goes for the counter-attack! But seeing the attack of TheBest, he moves back.
Brood Lords out, taking out some of the thors. ret losing a looot of roaches. But he holds the force off.
12:39 - Another Terran versus Zerg. ret to the left as red zerg, TheBest at the right as blue terran.
TheBest fast expanding and double gas, ret has spotted it with his drone scout. ret has also expand of course.
***
Blue Flame Hellions on the way for TheBest. ret laying down masses of creep.
***
ret spots the three Factories from TheBest with an suicidal overlord.
ret with not many units, is unable to stop the hellions running in.
How concerned were you about being eliminated from the tournament after losing the first game and after being behind in the second game?
- He wasn't confident today as he confesses he is not confident against Terran. He was very nervous because of that, but during the first set he noticed his opponent was not as good as he expected. so even if he lost the first game, he felt he could thake th eother two games.
What was your plan for sending two drones to harass in your match on Lost Temple? Were you intending to steal scfOu's gas?
- Steppes of War is of course a good map, so he tried to fake a sixpool with the two drones, but his opponent scouted him early.
***
In a few minutes we have Jos "ret" de Kroon taking on ChanMin "TheBest" Kim.
sC has four barracks, pumping marines and marauders. Has taken his pocket expansion.
***
fOu moving out with his units, is down at the Zerg's creep. Banelings from FruitDealer scaring him off.
GOMTV stream dying for me, but seems like FruitDealer held off the attack and fOu forfeited. 2-1 to FruitDealer, who moves on to Round of 16.
12:16 - Double barracks up for sC, being spawned at '1. FruitDealer. at '7, has taken his natural expansion.
***
fOu moving out with marines, but are taken out by the zerglings roaming around.
FruitDealer taking top expansion instead of his natural.
***
Siege tanks out now for sC, now pushing out on the field. Bunkers backing up the tanks. FruitDealer with lots of banelings, roaches and zerglings. But sC is not rushing anything, taking his time to push up to the gold expansion of FruitDealer.
***
Afraid of the baneling push, sC made sure to bunker up and add siege tanks. What he did not anticipate was the incoming air attacks. Sniping off tank after tank, sC actually GGs! 1-1!
12:04 - Wow, FrutDealer sending a double drone to fOu's main, will he be taking the two extractors? Nope, SCV taking it out.
***
Double barracks for sC. FruitDealer going for Roaches, and having takn an expand at the mid left expansion.
sC scouting, but didn't see the Roach Warren. No Queen for FruitDealer.
***
sC goes for the attack, takes out the top left expansion.
Now we see sC taking the gold base at the right which will further boost his economy.
***
Counter-attack in the main, 9 or so mutalisks from FruitDealer trying to take out as much any important structures. But he is too far behind, sC with lots and lots of units.
The Terran ball of units is too much for FruitDealer - who GGs out, hoping to get a better game going in the second round.
More units from FruitDealer, sC's offensive is paused, for now.
***
FruitDealer goes for an attack with baneling/zergling at the Terran's doorstep - but the bunkers and outer marines are too much.
FruitDealer getting a hatchery at 15, sC getting double barracks at the ramp, and has his SCV just out to scout the Zerg.
Two marines and three SCVs, attempting a wall-in. Six zerglings poounding on the bunkers, totally breaking the bunker barrier. Terran now needs to turn around, having the zerglings at his back.
More marines at home for sC, which holds the zerglings back.
***
sC building a Command Center at the natural expansion. FruitDealer focusing on getting his economy back.
Is the SCV all-in a standard strategy for you vs zerg? Or do you do that in certain matches, for example against players you think you would have a harder time playing a standard game against?
- When playing Zerg players, he considers the maps and the playstyle of his opponent. Today he thought sCV all-ins woudl be the perfect strategy. And for the first set he thought it was not a good map to to play a macro game against zerg so the wanted to win both sets with all-in.
Who is your most feared opponent in the GSL? or are you confident playing against everyone left in the GSL?
- He is a little bit scared of FruitDealer.
More vikings for BitByBit, taking off overseers.
BitBybit has two medivacs out, and seems to be opting for a one base all-in attack with his marine, marauders, vikings and banshees.
Moving in at the top, having a go at the Zerg's Roaches and Queens. Big attack, great move by the Terran to take out the overseers to hinder NewDawn to get more units. Mutalisks and Roaches was not the best counter to BitByBit's forces. BitByBit even attacked with his SCVs.
***
NewDawn being able to hold it off for a moment, but with only four Roaches left he is unable to hold off the second wave of troops. GG, BitByBit advances to Round of 16!
11:19 - The second game has begun, we have NewDawn laying down his hatchery at 15 supply, instead of his way earlier in last game. BitByBit goes double gas, which gets spotted by the scouting drone.
***
Double Starport, we'll see banshees most likely. Lair on the way for Zerg.
***
Spire up for NewDawn, we'll be seeing some mutalisks very early. Vikings up for Terran though.
11:11 - Welcome to the GOMTV Starcraft 2 Open coverage of GosuGamers. Coming in a bit late, we see that the first match has just started. BitByBitPrime is taking on NewDawn.
BitByBit, being Terran, spawns at '7 at Steppes of War, while we have NewDawn as Zerg at '1. NewDawn doing a veery early hatchery. BitByBit is going two barracks, having planted his wall-in at the bottom of the ramp instead of the top.
BitByBit also laying down two bunkers at the bottom of NewDawn's ramp. Could be a short game!
***
NewDawn breaks the rush, but is now veery low on drones. To finish it off, BitByBit added even more barracks to in the end overwhelm the Zerg with his massive Marine force backed by SCVs.
