It was April Fools yesterday, and with it came a bunch of pranks. These are the ones that we saw in the Overwatch community.
First and foremost we want to say sorry for tricking (some of) you with our own April Fools article yesterday. We had a lot of fun coming up with the patch notes, and a lot more fun watching the discussion happen on Twitter and Reddit.
But we were not the only ones joining in on this yearly day of trickery. So we felt it was only right to highlight the other ones we were entertained by yesterday:
Official In-Game Change
The only participation of the Overwatch Dev team we could find came in the form of this very subtle change: all text written by Reinhardt players came out in all-caps. Very subtle, pretty funny, and very typical of what Reinhardt would actually do!
Blizzard Korea
Meanwhile, Blizzard Korea put in a lot of work as well, coming up with this fairly convincing travel agency advert for Overwatch-related locations. Sadly we do not speak Korean, and google translate wasn't quite cooperating with us. Still, the pictures speak for themselves!
Overbuff
This Overwatch statistics website joined in on the fun by coming up with their own tracked stats, such as the ever-important Dad Jokes Told and Deaths From Lag data. Genius in its simplicity, if we say so ourselves.
/r/Overwatch
Meanwhile, Overwatch returned with an updated version of last year's April Fools joke. Users of the subreddit could be surprised with a Battle-net Blizzard App-like notification teasing the 'Lunar Crisis', which did not quite deliver when clicked on.
/r/CompetitiveOverwatch
This other popular Overwatch subreddit embraced the truth that we are all just Bronze players, supported by their custom Rank Verification system. This plus their intent of becoming more like the mainstream Overwatch reddit will go a long way towards making our game more appealing to a wider audience!
UnitLost
This video pretty much speaks for itself. Apparently Stylosa got a different set of Patch Notes sent to him, still not actually legit at all though...
Reddit's Official /r/Place
Worth a quick mention if only to showcase how popular Overwatch is. This year's Reddit 'April Fools' allows users to paint 1 pixel every 5 minutes, on a shared canvas with some amazing results as shown above. The actual canvas is much bigger and can be found here.
Hope you didn't get fooled too much yesterday, and enjoyed the creativity that came from April Fools 2017. Now, back to training on King's Row and Hanamura for the upcoming Lunar Crisis!
