The Overwatch World Cup is a national event that is taking place at the beginning of November (5-6th to be exact).
Countries will be competing, much like other national sports, for pride (among other things) in the first ever Overwatch World Cup at BlizzCon. Earlier in the month fans could vote for who we wanted to represent our own country. And now we know what European countries have made the cut to the final part of the tournament. So without further adieu, here are the EU teams that qualified for the Overwatch World Cup:
- Germany
- France
- Russia
- Italy
- Spain
- Finland
- Sweden
Please note that this is only the EU list of countries; we will report on the other teams that will be playing as well. Germany beat Iceland to qualify. France triumphed over Turkey, and Russia beat out Norway. Spain won against the baltic states and Sweden beat Italy in a occasonally close match.
The tournament is organized by Blizzard and promises to feature some fantastic gameplay. There are many players from all over the world who have made it to the finals. We at GosuGamers are looking forward to the finals. Having seen the action from the Qualifiers it looks like we are in for a fantastic tournament, even if we won't get an actual eSports event.
Looking at all the teams it is clear to see that there are some strong contenders. Canada has Surefour, the States has Seagull, Sweden has Iddqd (and TviQ and Zebbosai and cocco and chipshajen...), Finland has zappis and Taimou. Each country has strong players that can carry them to the end. But we know that teamwork is essential in Overwatch. So teams with more practice together will have an advantage.
