From many sources, it seems our beloved sequel will be divided into 3 releases. Each game (not expansion) will play host to a specific race's campaign and possibly multiplayer additions or changes.

The news comes to a shock to many fans - whom of which have been expecting a full sequel for the past 10 years. This will obviously change the release date so that the first campaign and multiplayer can be released earlier than expected so Blizzard can work on what it seems like, other projects. Without much speculating, it could free up their staff for other projects, or this could allow the SC2 team to focus on simultaneously finishing different parts of the story or multiplayer additions.

Quote from Blizzard's Rob Pardo
One thing I do admire from this step, is Blizzard's trust in us to stay with their game. This may not be a bad step as long as Blizzard delivers a full, unhindered (in many aspects) game with each release. You can obviously expect more lore, storyline, and excellent multiplayer patches ahead of us!
