GTA 6 is already breaking records, and it’s not even out yet.
At this point, it’s fair to say that Rockstar Games’ reveal for Grand Theft Auto 6 was a big success — but just how big, exactly? According to the Guinness World Records, the game’s first trailer has already broken three records, including becoming YouTube’s most-watched video that isn’t a music video in 24 hours.
GTA 6 smashes records left and right
Rockstar Games posted GTA 6’s first trailer on Tuesday, and it has already racked up a whopping 116 million views as of today. The video hit over 90 million views within 24 hours of its release, which instantly earned it the Guinness World Record for most-viewed game reveal in 24 hours. The video also beat out MrBeast’s ‘7 Days Stranded at Sea’ in the non-music category, which picked up 59 million views in its first 24 hours and now has almost 200 million.
To put into perspective just how staggering an achievement this is: GTA 6’s first trailer racked up more views in its first day of release than the reveal trailers of Red Dead Redemption 2, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Cyberpunk 2077 have to date (around 68 million). The trailer’s success has already dwarfed GTA 5’s own 2011 reveal trailer, which has picked up 100 million views since its release; GTA 6 surpassed that number in two days.
If you’re wondering what’s keeping GTA 6 from being the most-viewed video on YouTube in its first 24 hours, it’s none other than the sheer power of K-pop. BTS’ music video for ‘Butter’ racked up more than 108 million views in its first 24 hours, which beats GTA 6 by some margin. In second place is another BTS music video, ‘Dynamite’, with 101 million views. Still, GTA 6 has room to grow — we’ve all got a long two years to watch and rewatch this trailer until the game actually comes out.
GTA 6 is launching in 2025 on next-gen consoles, but will skip PC platforms on release. Check out our breakdown of the reveal trailer here.
