Overwatch 2's next season has a Diablo 4 crossover, because of course it does

Overwatch 2’s next Halloween-themed season features a Diablo 4 crossover and a new map set in Samoa.

Blizzard Entertainment has officially announced Overwatch 2 Season 7: Rise of Darkness, the first-person shooter’s first Halloween-themed season of content. This season will feature a crossover with an aptly spooky Blizzard IP: Diablo 4. The short teaser rleleased for Season 7 has revealed a Lilith skin for Moira and a Gothic makeover of Blizzard World to go with it.

Here’s the teaser:

It looks like Overwatch’s Halloween PvE mode Junkenstein’s Revenge will return for yet another go this year, potentially now set in this revamped version of Blizzard World. This will be the second version of the mode to debut in Overwatch 2, after last year’s Junkenstein’s Revenge: Wrath of the Bride. Like past Halloween events, Blizzard will likely bring all of the game’s Halloween events back, skins and all, for players to partake in.

This year however, things are a wee bit different. Rise of Darkness is roping in Diablo 4 for a spooky crossover, with a skin for Moira that transforms her into the villainous mother of Sanctuary Lilith. Blizzard World’s makeover seems specific to its Tristram Cathedral area (which was already pulled from Diablo), suggesting that the new PvE event might be Diablo-themed as well. If it is, I’d put money on Moira being the mode’s big bad. There’s even a town portal in the map according to the teaser, so remember to activate that for some extra Renown.

As is typical for new Overwatch 2 seasons, a few more skins have been leaked from Rise of Darkness as well. The battle pass’ seasonal Mythic skin will be an ‘Onryō’ skin for Hanzo, and Widowmaker is getting a Ghost Bride skin while Echo gets a Victorian Doll skin. Blizzard typically keeps most of the themed skins in the shop while the battle pass gets stuffed full of random cosmetics, so don’t expect all of these skins to be in the pass.

It’s not all about cosmetics, however. Overwatch 2 Season 7 will also add a tropical map to the game set in Samoa. Blizzard revealed the new map during the Overwatch League 2023 Grand Finals, right before the tournament came to its (likely) permanent end. The map is also rumoured to tease the game’s next new Tank hero, Mauga, a member of Talon and former friend of Baptiste.

In case you missed it, Call of Duty is also doing a Halloween-themed season featuring - you guessed it! - more Diablo 4 skins. Overwatch 2 Season 7 launches on October 10, 2023.
