The League of Legends animated series Arcane will return with a new season three years after its first.
Netflix and Riot Games’ beloved League of Legends animated series Arcane is set to return with Season 2 in late 2024. During Tencent’s Video V Vision Conference, the company announced that the series is planned for a Q4 2024 release - which could land around League’s 15th anniversary event in November next year.
The announcement was shared on X (or Twitter, if you’ve been out of the loop) by a fan account called LeagueOfLeaks:
That’s quite a long wait for Arcane fans, who will have had to endure three long years by the time Season 2 hits Netflix in 2024. This news isn’t a huge surprise, either; Riot Games CEO Nicolo Laurent confirmed earlier this year that he had already seen parts of Season 2, but a release is, “unfortunately not going to be this year.” Laurent is now set to be replaced as Riot’s CEO by A. Dylan Jadeja.
Clearly, Riot is looking to take their time to put out a new season that matches the level of quality Arcane debuted with. The stakes are rather high, seeing as the first season swept multiple awards and heightened the League brand as a whole. The series reportedly took six years to produce and while Season 2 will only take half that time to release, it’s still quite a long wait for a series that ended on a series of cliffhangers.
Fortunately, fans of Arcane and League of Legends have other spin-offs to turn to if they’re looking for more out of this universe. Besides already-released spin-off games like Mageseeker: A League of Legends Story, Riot is also developing a League of Legends MMO and a League of Legends fighting game called Project L.
