New Major League Gaming rules force players to hide their sponsors, according to a leaked email addressed to all Pro Players. eSport organization heads already condemn the rule change.
The new rule will control how much a sponsor logo will be shown on the main stage of an MLG Pro Circuit event.
A player jersey's front nor sleeves must not have any sponsor logos. Sponsor logos are instead meant to be sported at the back of the jersey no bigger than 4" x 4", and only on the lower half of the jersey.
- "Player apparel must comply with the above rules when playing on the main stage. Players/Coaches who do not have a MLG produced jersey or approved jerseys that follow the above guidelines will be given a blank MLG jersey to wear on the Main Stage," can be read in the email. "Player/Coaches who do not follow the above guidelines and refuse to wear the blank jerseys will forfeit their match."
Since the leaked email, Fnatic's head Sam Mathews and FXOpen'sJoshua "BoSs" Dentrinos have expressed their opinions on Twitter. Mathews said that this is a step back, and that it's pro teams which grow esports and pay players.
- "We pay the players so they can do this full time, we fly them to MLG from across the globe. AGAIN... A step back," says Mathews.
Dentrinos posted to MLG's Adam Apicella that he might not send his Korean squad to Orlando because of this.
