After the groundbreaking announcement for Season 10, MDL ID Season 9 will introduce a new format in the MLBB esports league.
Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Development League Indonesia (MDL ID) will use a new format for their regular season stage, adding the Swiss Round after the group stage to determine the team's playoff slot.
Swiss Round is a recently resurged stage of the league format where every team participating needs three wins to qualify for the next stage, or in this case, the playoff round. However, the first team to get three losses will be eliminated from the league. Only eight teams from the Swiss Round will advance to the playoff.
Seventeen teams have been announced for Season 9 of MDL ID. Nine teams are from the current MPL ID affiliated team; four are from the best-performing independent team from MDL Season 8; two are from the community via MICC; and the last two are from the play-in stage.
This is how the group stage will look like:

Only four teams from Group D will be advancing to the Swiss Round. The bottom team will be eliminated from MDL Season 9.
The MDL Indonesia is a proving ground for newcomers to enter the biggest stage of MLBB's esports. Almost eighty per cent of the current players in MPL Indonesia are promoted from this league. Names like CW, Alberttt, Sanz, Nnaelll, Tazz, and Skylar begin their journey to the top of MLBB esports from the developmental league of MPL ID.
To further prove the success of MDL Indonesia, two players from Bosque, the winner of MDL ID Season 8, have been recruited to MPL ID's team. They are Gugun, who joined AURA Fire, and Bunnyqt, who became an RRQ Hoshi player.
After the conclusion of Season 9, two women's teams, taken from WSL and WSL Invitational, will join Season 10 of MDL Indonesia. This marks the first time a women's team joins the MDL or MPL scene. Previously, both men and women had different tournaments and had a scene on their own.
