Team Indonesia take gold in the MLBB Women's event at the SEA Games

It was grand finals time at the 32nd SEA Games for the Women’s MLBB tournament, with Indonesia and the Philippines fighting for the gold medal.

Yesterday we saw both the Philippines and Indonesia secure themselves a guaranteed silver medal, at least, in the 32nd Southeast Asia Game’s Women’s Mobile Legends: Bang Bang tournament. For the other two teams, the third/fourth place series was merely a formality today, with the new SEA Games ethos providing two bronze medallist positions. With that said, it was Malaysia who secured a 2-0 victory to take third place, while Vietnam finished in fourth. That left us to the gold medal series – a best-of-five between ID and PH.

Having already witnessed the dominance of Team ID on multiple occasions, including a victory over PH during the group stage, it was likely that the previous SEA Games’ runners-up would finally get their moment to take down PH from their pinnacle atop the MLBB world. After game one, this became even more clear, with ID claiming a swift victory, leaving PH in their dust. Having spoken to Coach Unida, we already knew that PH had a plan to come back – and now was their time.

Over the next two games, PH began to show just how powerful they are, as the squad powered through their opponents, ignoring any disadvantages they may have had early in the series. Going up 2-1 in the series, Team PH was now poised to claim another gold medal. However, the women of ID did not give up the fight, with an emphatic victory in game four. It was no contest right from the start, as they grouped up and controlled the entire Land of Dawn, tying up the series.

As everything came down to a best-of-one, with one game left to decide things, both teams pulled out all the stops in game five. As the dust settled, it was Team Indonesia who was left standing, having managed to make an ultimate comeback to claim a fantastic victory. The final standing for the tournament is:

  • Gold medal – Indonesia
  • Silver medal – Philippines
  • Bronze medal – Malaysia
  • Bronze medal – Vietnam

With that, the Women’s tournament for MLBB at the 32nd SEA Games comes to an end in an amazing way. We now look forward to the Men’s tournament which begins on May 12th with its group stage – and a total of nine participating regions.
