M5 World Championship: Geek Fam ID set themselves up for their first M-Series as a team

Having suffered in the lower spaces of MPL ID for a long time, Geek Fam ID finally rose up and secured a spot at the M5 World Championship.

Since all the way back in Season 4 of the Mobile Legends Professional League in Indonesia, Geek Fam ID has been a contender. However, in all that time, the organisation has only ever managed to bounce up and down between seventh and eighth place, with Season 11 being their first time reaching fifth/sixth place – not a huge achievement when it comes down to it. Season 12, with some new additions to the roster, saw GFID shine, as they took down some of the best to reach the grand finals, where they were dispatched by ONIC Esports.

The team

Luke
Manuel “Nnael” Simbolon
Valent Agriansyah “Aboy” Putra
Mark Christian “Markyyyy” Capacio
Allen Jedric “Baloyskie” Baloy
Mohammad Dwi Chandra “Caderaa” Pambudi

GFID’s roster is made up of four players from ID, who have come into the squad from either the team’s academy or from different teams. The remaining two players are both Philippines imports – something we have begun to see a lot more over the recent years in many regions. The addition of Baloyskie and Markyyyy has definitely bolstered the roster to new heights, as they now go in search of what would be a dream story for the team at M5.

The M-Series

When it comes to the M-Series, GFID as an organisation will be heading to their first-ever event, but not all the players involved are in the same boat. For each of the ID members on the roster, this will be their first M-Series, but the two PH imports have been here before – and almost gone the full distance too. Both players were once a part of a very strong ONIC Philippines roster back at M3, soon after the domination of the region began. Having made it all the way through to the grand finals, ONIC fell to the once-destructive force of Blacklist International – leaving the two players with a second-place medal. For Baloyskie, he was also present back at the first M-Series event, back when ID was at their peak.

But, after some time, the two now return, looking to put ID back on the international map for MLBB and take a new organisation to the top, having already proved that they have what it takes in their local MPL event.

The formula

When it comes to their time within the Land of Dawn, GFID tends to favour some heroes far more than others – which we saw quite often during their stint at MPL ID Season 12. Game in and game out, heroes such as Rafaela, Irithel, Faramis, and Baxia filled their lineups, and win or lose, they would pick it again. However, the team is far more proficient than that gives them credit for, as they excel in multiple ways. Nnael is definitely someone to look out for, while the veteran nature of Baloyskie and Markyyyy can certainly bring in something different for the squad.

Although GFID may be experiencing the M5 World Championship for the first time as one, they are one of those teams that could ruin the hopes of many so-called “favourites”. With the PH factor a part of their squad, they will be hoping that the home-ground advantage can increase their odds, even though they participate in ID.
