GAM Esports send home LOUD from an international tournament for the second time in a row.
In just the third series to go to all three games, it was GAM Esports who came back from an early deficit to eliminate LOUD from the Mid-Season Invitational. This marks the second consecutive international event that GAM was able to send home the CBLOL champions with the first happening at last year's Worlds.
GAM will now move on to the lower bracket final where a rematch against Fnatic await. This will determine the second team from Group B that will qualify to the Bracket Stage. And unfortunately for LOUD, they will join their fellow Latin Americans Estral Esports as the first two teams to be sent home from MSI.
The first game of the best-of-three series was a tight match-up between LOUD and GAM as the former had an edge and was able to have better rotations to take objectives quicker. This resulted in LOUD being able to take multiple turrets without much pressure from GAM and even if there were, Jonghoon “Croc” Park's Lee Sin was there to clean things up. Leonardo “Robo” Souza's Ornn was also a nuisance to deal with while Moon “Route” Geom-su's Senna was involved in over 90 per cent of LOUD's total kills of 11.
However, things took a turn for the worse for LOUD in the second game as GAM came out swinging. With defeat at its doorstep, GAM was able to soak the pressure and dish it right back to LOUD as they overwhelmed the CBLOL squad in the late game to tie the series. It was mostly Croc with Viego who was able to constantly get in behind GAM's backline as he finished with seven kills, three deaths, and four assists.
Unfortunately, the rest of LOUD could not keep up against GAM. Hứa “EasyLove” Thành An's Zeri proved to be the difference maker and main damage-dealer with seven kills and 12 assists to go with just one death. EasyLove would carry the momentum of GAM's comeback in game two and bring it to the third and final match of the series as his Zeri would once again prove decisive.
And this time, it was GAM who had a stranglehold of the match from the get-go as they were able to suffocate LOUD from early on. Phạm Thạch “Elio” Nhân Băng's Nautilus was once again a crucial piece in GAM's cog as he was able to sufficiently support his AD carry to a great extent as he recorded zero kills and deaths, but got 15 assists instead. Even Đỗ Duy “Levi” Khánh saw plenty of action with his Lee Sin as he picked up five kills, two deaths, and 14 assists.
Tomorrow will be the final day of the Play-In Stage to determine the last two teams that will be heading to the MSI Bracket Stage. And in a funny turn of events, both games tomorrow will be a rematch series.
