The LPL Spring Split 2024 starts in a few weeks time.
A new year has dawned upon us and with that, the start of the new League of Legends 2024 season. The LEC is the first major franchise league to start its Winter Split on January 13th and just two days later, it will be the start of the LPL Spring Split 2024. The undisputed champions of China, JD Gaming will head into the new season as the defending champions, having won both the Spring and Summer splits last season.
Much like its previous iterations, there will be two phases in its king-of-the-hill playoff bracket once the group stage is complete. And as always, the LPL will have a 17-team list in the group stage. This year also featured plenty of roster shuffles for the LPL as some made specific roster changes while others went through multiple shuffles in their squad.
LPL Spring Split — Schedule & Format
The LPL Spring Split will go on for three straight months, starting from January 15–April 15 to determine the team to lift the trophy as well as represent the region at the Mid-Season Invitational. We will get started with the group stage first which will have all 17 teams play against one another to determine the 10 best teams to move on to the playoff bracket. The group stage will be a single-round robin format with every series being a best-of-three.
As for the top 10 teams, only the top two will move on to the second phase of the playoff bracket, which will be a double-elimination format. For teams that finished between third through 10th, they will have to go through a single-elimination ‘king-of-the-hill’ format to determine the last two teams standings to head over to the second phase.
Four teams will compete in the double-elimination playoff bracket to find out who will lift the LPL Spring Split trophy as well as represent the region at MSI later this year. With JDG being the reigning undisputed champions of the LPL, it wouldn't be all that surprising to see them go all the way once more this season. There is also the matter of Bilibili Gaming, who went toe-to-toe against JDG last season and will be looking for revenge this year.
LPL Spring Split — Teams
All 17 teams have already finalised its rosters ahead of the Spring Split in just a few weeks time. For obvious reasons, the two teams that many will be looking out for are JDG and BLG given how well both orgs performed last season. However, due to the various roster shuffles during the off-season, the LPL does feature some heavily-stacked teams that could prove to be a dark horse this season.
The likes of Weibo Gaming will be one of them after its second-place finish at Worlds 2023. Even Top Esports reinvested in its roster to bring some big-names to the org as well as LNG Esports, two teams that will be looking to make an even bigger splash this season. It's also worth noting that there are only six teams that feature a full-Chinese squad whereas the other 11 have one to two imported players, mainly from South Korea, Taiwan, and Hong Kong.
