DWG.KIA and JD Gaming secure their slots in the playoffs.
We have officially lost two more Western teams in both the LEC and the LCS with DWG.KIA defeated G2 Esports and thus, sent them home in the group stage. And by doing so, it also means that Evil Geniuses are officially out as they needed DWG to drop one game to stay in contention.
This is G2's third time getting eliminated from the world championship in the group stage portion. And on the other half of the same coin, this will be DWG's fourth straight successful attempt at making it to the playoffs. And to make matters worse for G2, their loss against DWG was similar to their previous match against EG.
DWG stuck with the same bottom lane duo of Lucian and Nami like what EG did and it worked out beautifully for the 2020 champions. The likes of Seo "deokdam" Dae-Gil and Kim "Kellin" Hyeong-Gyu benefitted from this with deokdam scoring five kills and seven assists while Kellin finished with a single kill and 12 assists, the highest in the game.
The LCK team was methodical and decisive in their approach to the game, ensuring that they kept mistakes to a minimum. This throttled G2's chances of making any plays on the map with DWG able to stay within range to get any free kills whilst getting away unscathed.
But if there was one player who probably stood out, it would be Kim "Canyon" Geon-bu with his Virgo. He managed to claim six kills, the most on his team while also providing four assists. His ability to rotate to the right place and at the right time was one of DWG's keys to victory.
With DWG's win, both they and JD Gaming have officially qualified for the playoffs. Now all that matters is who finishes at the top of the group.
