JD Gaming stays undefeated.
The LPL's top team in the Summer, JD Gaming remains undefeated after taking out G2 Esports in a nervy best-of-one to start day four. This is JD's third win in a row, putting them at the top of Group B and one of the favourites to make it to the playoffs. While G2 did rally together well in the late game to put the game on an even footing, they could not close it out and gave JD an opening to exploit and take a close win.
That loss solidifies G2's third-place spot for now with DWG.KIA taking on Evil Geniuses later today. If EG can sneak a surprise victory over DWG, it would result in a three-way tie heading into their final round of games on October 14. All four teams will play each other one final time to determine who moves on to the playoffs.
As for the game itself, JD did not make it easy on themselves. This comes after a fairly even exchange in the early game with both teams trying to assert dominance. But come the mid-game portion, it looked like JD took control having the greater map presence while also having the greater gold difference after taking out more turrets than G2. However, JD was susceptible to some questionable moments that allowed G2 to fight back.
After some key pick-offs from G2, it gave them a chance to claw back into the game to pull the gold difference back to even. The momentum within the game swung towards both teams like a pendulum with neither gaining full control. Both teams would constantly trade blows and lives but it wasn't enough to separate either of the two.
But in the end, it was JD who came out on top in the final teamfight of the match. With both teams clashing in the middle lane, it was G2 who struck first. Marcin "Jankos" Jankowski managed to eliminate Zeng "Yagao" Qi to give G2 the advantage. However, Wang "Hope" Jie managed to take out Rasmus "Caps" Borregaard Winther. From there, G2 crumbled under the pressure with neither one of Victor "Flakked" Lirola or Sergen "BrokenBlade" Çelik being able to stay alive long enough to make an impact.
Despite bringing the game back to even, G2 could not see it over the line. JD wiped out four and marched straight to G2's base, taking out the inhibitor before making a beeline to the Nexus. That win puts JD in pole position to qualify for the playoffs while also leaving them undefeated at Worlds 2022. G2 will be able to gain their revenge in a few days and hopefully do enough to qualify for the next stage.
