Match Context: It's been a long time since Invictus Gaming faced off against Young Glory, their sister team.  Today, their match was the start of the summer season for LPL.  While Young Glory earned their spot by acquiring top 2 in the league for LSPL, this isn't their first foray into the LPL. Young Glory had participated to this prior in 2013.

Invictus Gaming are the favorites to win this match, but they lost a huge component to their team that was oxymoronic to the way Chinese usually prefers their top lane to play -- the carry style.  PDD has retired and replacing him is YonGsu, an amateur top laner from Korea.  Invictus Gaming feels out their new member as they face off against an old scrim partner.

Key Points:

  • iG's team composition had a lot of hard engage and all in-follow up, including Zz1tai on Renekton mid. Young Glory had more disengage with the exception of Jarvan.
  • YG took first tower, but iG 3-man dove top for first blood, having their support Kittens hold mid.
  • When iG found deep wards initially, they collectively grabbed four sweeper trinkets and blinded YG.
  • YG find a crucial catch around 18 minutes on Zz1tai, allowing them to acquire baron and take out 2 additional members.
  • Despite a massive lead, Invictus Gaming steals the next baron and picks off the entire team.
  • iG close out shortly after.

Key Points:

  • Zz1tai turns a 1v2 gank coming out with first blood to start the game off.
  • A flash death sentence by Kitties punishes YinFu for being greedy with warding.
  • Lots of bottom lane focus in this game, teleports from both teams burned early to secure first dragon control. Mid and top ended up as empty lanes around 10 minutes in.
  • Once again, iG swept the majority of Young Glory's vision and triumphed in teamfights, transitioning them to towers.
  • YG's lack of vision meant they lost a perfect opportunity to catch iG at baron again.  An unwarded bush prevented YanSir's Annie from landing a 2-man Tibbers on recalling opponents.
  • Having lost full control, YG decide to surrender at 28 minutes.

 VS

Match context: There's no doubt that these two are the pinnacle of top teams in China. OMG monopolized the throne all year until EDG had proven their worth during the LPL Spring 2014 playoffs following OMG's dismal defeat to SKT T1 K at All-Stars.  While EDG kept the same comfortable line-up, the same couldn't be said for OMG.

Not only is OMG trying out new supports and indicating on social media that it'll be a surprise and remain suspensful for fans, Drug (formerly Allen or LoveLin) now resides back in the jungle for the first time since Season 3 Worlds. EDG looks to capitalize against OMG in this matchup and hit them at their weak points before they build stability and seek the throne once again.

Key Points:

  • OMG utilized a comp with strong early waveclear to stall for lategame Twitch and Ryze.  EDG focused on Kha'zix diving in with ult and Lulu ulting after for a wombo combo.
  • Drug (Lovelin/Allen) gets caught out early by the dragon pit, giving Koro first blood.
  • EDG find significant early turret advantages and thus, map pressure.
  • Warding was rather poor from both teams early.
  • Farm funneled into Namei, who splitpushed in the mid-game to trade inner tower for outer tower with OMG.
  • EDG's warding (especially pinks) improve drastically as the game goes on.  Namei utilizes his signature Brutalizer / CDR build for huge damage in fights.
  • OMG eventually crumble after a free baron for EDG.

Key Points:

  • OMG start the game with an early red steal. In return, EDG manages to 1v1 kill Cool's Leblanc early on.
  • Drug (Lovelin/Allen) puts an insane amount of pressure on the map while also outfarming ClearLove
  • San does a good job of staying alive and OMG gets the better of teamfights around the dragon pit early on.
  • Ggoing becomes absurdly fed and farmed on his Kayle, allowing him to push Koro out of lane and help secure 2 early tower kills for his team
  • Drug maintains nearly a 100% kill participation rate throughout the game and OMG doesn't allow EDG to take a single turret for the first half hour
  • EDG find a few picks later on that allow them to catch up, primarily due to poor warding from OMG.
  • In the aftermath of the fight, San and Drug duo baron. Despite this, EDG find an ace and grab the first inhibitor as well as the next baron.
  • After defending their base, OMG's Ggoing teleports to a ward near the inhibitor while the rest of his team focuses on U, allowing them to take the game.
