Three weeks ago we heard about the venue, Prague, for the Road To Blizzcon European Championships. Today, Blizzard announced the venue for the American Championships: Las Vegas!
For the last few months, teams all over the world have been progressing towards qualifying for the Heroes of the Storm World Championships in November. Every month, the pool of potential World Champions is becoming that much smaller. Three weeks ago ESL, the business partnered with Blizzard to organize their eSports events, unveiled that the European Regional Championship will be held at an offline event in Prague on October 3rd and 4th. As seen below, this event is the moment where Europe’s two representatives will be decided. At this point Natus Vincere, Team ROCCAT and Virtus.Pro have been rewarded spots, while 5 more teams will be chosen through this month’s and next month’s EU Qualifiers.
Today Blizzard announced their plans for the equivalent event in America: the Americas Regional Championship. During the weekend of 19-20 September, the Las Vegas Convention Center will be the location where eight of the best teams in the Americas region will fight for two spots in the World Championships. This will be done through a double elimination group stage to get from eight teams to four, followed by a single-elimination bracket to decide the top two teams that will qualify for the World Championship. Over the weekend, $100,000 will be given out in prize money. All matches will of course be streamed on Blizzard's official Heroes of the Storm Twitch channel: http://www.twitch.tv/blizzheroes.
Already we know that the North American teams Tempo Storm, Cloud9 Maelstrom, COGnitive Gaming; the Southeast Asian Relics and the Australia/New Zealand Team Immunity White are going to be playing in Las Vegas. The last three teams will be decided through the NA August open (2 teams) and the Latin American Copa America Championships (1 team). We will find out what the former 2 teams will be during the final rounds of the August Open on August 23rd, while the Copa America Championships will conclude sometime in September or October.
It's is clear that we are only months away from the World Championship at Blizzcon, which will be played the first week of November!
