Just one day after announcing his departure from Team Liquid, Jason 'Amaz' Chan has announced the formation of his own team. This team, Archon, currently comprises of Amaz himself, Firebat and Hosty. In a press release this evening Amaz announced the formation of the new team and stated their intent to deliver in tournaments across the world, and focus on creating streaming content.
Amaz shocked the Hearthstone community yesterday by announcing his departure from Team Liquid just six months after joining, but perhaps even more shocking is that Amaz has managed to sign up Firebat after the World Championship competitor left the Copenhagen Wolves team earlier this month. Firebat had attracted interest from the already established top teams in the sport, so his signing is certainly an early coup for the fledgling team.
With such an impressive line-up, Archon have to be considered as one of the top teams in Hearthstone even at this early stage, and are one of only two teams to boast more than one player inside the current top twenty rankings.
Firebat is currently ranked #13 in the world and #2 in North America, and will compete under the Archon banner at the Hearthstone World Championships tomorrow following an impressive qualification campaign and stellar ladder performances. Firebat also attained a semi final finish at the inaugural Hearthstats League.Â
The team captain and founder himself is also considered one of the world's elite players, and Amaz is currently ranked #10 in the world. Amaz was victorious at IEM Schenzen, the M-House Cup and the Liquid VGVN#1 tournament, and has won over $20,000 to date.Â
Hosty is the lesser known of the founding members, but is currently ranked #1 in the ESL Hearthstone Cup. Hosty was previously a member of Team Don't Kick My Robot, before leaving at the end of August.
Commenting on the team launch, Amaz said:
"We are currently working on the official Archon website, where beginners and veterans of Hearthstone can find the most up-to-date Hearthstone information out there. We are also planning an online tournament to celebrate the founding of Archon, so stay tuned as we will be inviting the top players from all over the world to compete for a minimum of a US$3,000 prize pool, along with an open qualifier bracket as well!
"Even with the experience I have had in competitive Hearthstone and the management skills I have learned from my guild master days in WoW, I know there will be many challenges ahead. But know this, we are ready to make Archon one of if not the most iconic Hearthstone teams around."
Amaz also said that the team could be looking to add another two players to their roster in the near future, and encouraged those interested to contact him.
