Did you know that our very own StarCraft: Brood War game has a mode called Capture The Flag? Well if you did not, now you do. But the real question is why is this mode not played enough these days?
Capture the flag is simple, in name at least, really, you just do what it says, capture the flag. But it is not as simple as that, there are certain strategies that can be done to make you have the advantage over the opposing side. Although getting the flag within your grasp is not the only single way of winning. You can do it the old fashioned melee way and just kill off the other side as if they were flies on your windshield.
The way you go about capturing the flag is how ever you would prefer to do. But you can only grab the flag with a worker and than run back to your base like a bat out of hell. You can drop in a worker if you would like to. You can just keep your enemy occupied with suppressive fire while the work sneaks in the base and grabs the flag. It is really up to you how you would like to win the match.
Capture the flag is just like regular Brood War, just with an extra fun feature added to it. So why is it not played anymore? That really can't be answered, all that anyone can do is give a bunch of lame excuses for why the mode is not played. One excuse is because it may have been forgotten. Another would be no one has a map or knows a map that the game can be played on. Or is it just that no one really cares for the mode.
However, there are a few people who remembered that Blizzard added this mode to our already great game. StarEdit Network or StarEdit.Net is starting up a CTF tournament in honor of a lost friend, a resident Anarchist, Nuclearrabbit. That she is dead due to a brain tumore, or even that she is a she is still being debated though. Such is the nature of our community.
Note though that they will not be playing classic CTF, but rather a UMS version of it called Starfort, that is a lot of fun when you get good teams going. To enter the CTF tournament your team must consist of four players. And keep in mind seeing how this tournament is a memorial tournament, there will be no prize for the winning team. To find out more details about the tournament and where to sign up for the tournament check out the StarEdit website here.
Anyways just trying to bring some change a little more of our vast community. Enjoy.
