Jake Cody Wins $25k WSOP HU Championship

Jake Cody won the first open event of the World Series of Poker summer, the $25,000 no-limit hold'em heads-up championship Friday defeating Yevgeniy Timoshenko and collecting $851,192. He also joined an elite group becoming the third player to win the major poker event triple crown of an EPT win, a WPT win and a WSOP win.

The large win brings Cody’s career tournament earnings to nearly $3 million, but perhaps more importantly, the poker pro joins Roland de Wolfe and Gavin Griffin as the only players to win poker’s version of a triple crown. Cody won the WPT London Poker Classic back in September and was the champion of the EPT Deauville in January of last year.

Cody's supporters caused quite the scene in the last two matches shouting out cheers the entire match. Yevgeniy Timoshenko, who had defeated Eric Froehlich in the semi-finals takes home $515,980.

Cody defeated Gus Hansen in the semi finals.
