New Ghost of Yōtei trailer announces release date
Game developer Sucker Punch Productions has unveiled a new trailer for its upcoming open-world sequel Ghost of Yōtei. The game takes place hundreds of years after Ghost of Tsushima, following a new protagonist named Atsu and her bloody quest for vengeance. The trailer also confirms its release date: 2 October, 2025.
Ghost of Yōtei takes place in the heart of Ezo (known as Hokkaido in present day), where a gang of outlaws called the Yōtei Six killed Atsu’s family 16 years ago. Atsu herself was stabbed and left for dead on a burning ginkgo tree, but she survived and learned to fight, hunt, and kill. Years later, she has returned with vengeance in her heart, and six names to wipe off the face of the Earth: The Snake, The Oni, The Kitsune, The Spider, The Dragon, and Lord Saito.
The story will follow Atsu’s quest for vengeance, armed with the same katana that almost killed her years ago. She’ll explore Ezo, meet allies, and do a little exploration on the side, naturally. The brief snippets of gameplay we see in the trailer above show off the game’s combat, weapons, and what appears to be a new animal companion. There’s also a flashback mechanic that has players dive into Atsu’s past.
Ghost of Yōtei appears to follow almost the exact formula as this year’s Assassin’s Creed Shadows, according to the PlayStation Blog. Players will able to pursue leads to hunt down members of the Yōtei Six in any order they choose, but Atsu can also find weapon sensei for new skills, or other dangerous targets to claim bounties. To rest, Atsu can build a campfire anywhere in the open world.

Pre-orders for Ghost of Yōtei will go live on 2 May, 2025. Those who pre-order the game will get an in-game mask and seven PSN avatars themed after characters from Ghost of Yōtei. The game will cost US$69.99, but its Digital Deluxe Edition will cost US$79.99.

The Digital Deluxe Edition will include in-game bonuses like The Snake’s armor set, an alternate dye for your starting armor, a unique horse color and unique saddle dye, an in-game Charm, a gold Sword Kit, and an early unlock of Traveler’s Maps.

The game’s Collector’s Edition, which does not have a price tag just yet, will include all the aforementioned items and a real-life replica of Atsu’s Ghost mask, meant for display. Atsu’s sash is also included, along with a replica of the Tsuba from Atsu’s katana. There’s also a pouch of coins and instructions to play an in-game minigame called Zeni Hajiki, a foldable papercraft ginkgo tree, and a set of four art cards.
Ghost of Yōtei launches on PlayStation 5 on 2 October, 2025.
