Marvel Rivals will no longer reset player ranks twice every season.
NetEase Games is officially rolling back plans for a mid-season rank reset in Marvel Rivals. The developer had previously announced that players’ competitive ranks would be reset on 21 February “to shake up the battlefield” earlier this week. Players responded to the abrupt announcement negatively online, causing the developer to cancel the rank reset entirely.
The developer has also confirmed a release date for new playable characters The Thing and The Human Torch.
Marvel Rivals cancels plans for mid-season rank reset
NetEase Games announced plans to reset competitive ranks for all players every half-season on 11 February this week, but it took less than a day for these plans to be abandoned altogether. Players revolted against the very concept of their rank being reset so quickly after their hard climb up the competitive ladder, and argued that a seasonal rank would work much better.
Fortunately, the game’s developer has acquiesced. Little more than 12 hours later, it was announced that “in light of the community’s input,” player ranks will no longer be reset. Instead. Players will be able to grind for all-new cosmetic rewards in the second half of Season 1. These rewards include “a new Gold rank costume and a variety of Crests of Honor, featuring distinct designs for Grandmaster, Celestial, Eternity, and One Above All.”
The developer said of the changes:
After the release of Dev Talk 10 regarding the seasonal rank adjustment, we received a wealth of feedback from the community. A common concern was the pressure associated with having a rank reset every half-season, which has made participating in competitive mode less enjoyable. In light of the community's input, we have decided to make some changes to optimize the rank system.
Setting aside competitive ranks, there’s plenty more to look forward to in the second half of Marvel Rivals Season 1. On 21 February, players will be introduced to two new playable characters rounding out the Fantastic Four roster: The Thing and The Human Torch. Starting on 13 February, players will also be able to pick up a cosmetic bundle themed after Marvel Studios’ Captain America: Brave New World.
