It’s no Nintendo Switch 2, but it is a solid nostalgia trip.
Nintendo has a console-related announcement to make, but it definitely isn’t the one you’re expecting. The game company is teaming up with Lego to create a brick-built version of its most popular handheld console: the Game Boy. This follows previous partnerships between both companies to release Lego Super Mario and Lego Nintendo Entertainment System sets.
Here’s the reveal trailer:
Lego and Nintendo team up for new Game Boy set
Lego and Nintendo have teamed up to make a brick-built version of the latter company’s gaming consoles before. In 2020, the companies released the Lego Nintendo Entertainment System; a hefty 2,646 toy set that included a retro-styled 1980s TV for added nostalgia.
Both Lego and Nintendo have since collaborated multiple times, more often than not to release new sets for the Lego Super Mario toyline, but also to launch Lego sets based on The Legend of Zelda and Animal Crossing as well. That being said, Lego has not attempted to make another set based on a Nintendo game console in the four years since the release of the Lego NES.
Until now, that is. Lego and Nintendo appear to be continuing their fruitful partnership with a new Lego set based on the iconic Game Boy handheld console. Nintendo announced the news on its Twitter/X account – hilariously, drawing angry reactions that it was announcing something that wasn’t Nintendo Switch 2-related in the process – with a brief trailer.
The trailer shows viewers the Game Boy’s trademark purple buttons and control pad, but doesn’t give them a good look at what the set will actually look like. The Lego Game Boy set is only slated for release in October 2025 according to the announcement, so there’s plenty of time for both companies to show it off with a full reveal.
