One of World of Warcraft’s most-requested features is finally on the way.
Blizzard Entertainment had lots of Warcraft-related news to deliver during this week’s Warcraft 30th Anniversary Direct. However, one of its announcements was a little more exciting than the rest: World of Warcraft is finally getting player housing – a full two decades after launch, nonetheless.
The long-requested feature will arrive as part of the game’s upcoming Midnight expansion. Here’s the announcement trailer:
World of Warcraft to get player housing in upcoming Midnight expansion
Blizzard Entertainment has announced that player housing is finally coming to World of Warcraft. The highly-requested feature will be added via Warcraft’s next expansion Midnight, which is scheduled for a reveal in Summer next year. The feature was announced during Blizzard’s 30th anniversary Warcraft stream by senior game director Ion Hazzikostas, who said “And speaking of home, the team does have one more thing to share with you…” before playing the teaser video above.
While we don’t know much about how Blizzard plans to incorporate player housing in World of Warcraft as of right now, we can safely assume that it will be better done than Warlords of Draenor’s Garrisons system, which wasn’t quite what players wanted out of the game in terms of player housing. What players want to be able to do is build an instanced home and grind out decorations for it in-game – and this video seems to promise exactly that.
Judging by Blizzard’s teaser, it looks like players will be able to put up trophy decorations of all kinds in a cosy home of their own – but there’s no way of knowing the true extent of this feature just yet. If this is the big gimmick headlining World of Warcraft’s next expansion, one can expect it to be fairly ambitious. Hopefully, it will also persist well beyond the expansion itself.
World of Warcraft: Midnight does not have a firm release date yet, but Blizzard plans to reveal the expansion in Summer 2025.
