Satisfactory devs unveil new roguelike ‘As We Descend’ with playable demo

In As We Descend, players navigate a future in which resources are scarce and humanity is on the brink of collapse.

Coffee Stain, the developer of the popular factory simulation game Satisfactory, along with Box Dragon, have revealed their next project. As We Descend is a roguelike deckbuilder set in a post-apocalyptic world.

The game was officially revealed during The Spill, an indie developer live stream. The official announcement trailer dropped on Wednesday (9 October), along with a playable demo on Steam.

In the stream, Satisfactory’s Community Manager Snutt Treptow joined As We Descend Game Director Kevin Chang to showcase the game’s first deep dive into its mechanics and story.

A new take on Roguelike deckbuilders

In As We Descend, players navigate a future in which resources are scarce and humanity is on the brink of collapse.

As a roguelike deckbuilder, the game brings a strategic edge to familiar mechanics, combining card-based combat with relationship-building in a city fraught with political intrigue. You’ll recruit allies, make tough decisions, and fight terrifying enemies, all while the city evolves and reacts to your choices.

The game blends turn-based combat with card drafting and narrative-driven gameplay, creating a layered experience where every decision counts. As you venture deeper into this desperate world, the choices you make will shape the fate of the last remnants of civilisation.

As We Descend marks the debut title from Box Dragon, a studio founded by Kevin Chang and Karl Bergström, both formerly of Stunlock Studios.

The game’s distinctive art style comes from Aleks Nikonov, previously a senior concept artist at Riot Games whose work helps shape the game’s bleak yet visually compelling world.

“We’re thrilled to have shared As We Descend during The Spill,” said Kevin Chang, Game Director at Box Dragon.

“It’s been amazing to hear feedback from those who’ve played the closed beta, and we’re excited to welcome even more players through our new demo. This is just the beginning for As We Descend, and we’re looking forward to refining the experience further with input from the community.”

The game has yet to have a release date, but players can already download and play the demo on Steam, offering players a first taste of the roguelike action. Players can also sign up for the ongoing closed beta via the game’s official website. www.AsWeDescend.com
