It probably won’t be a second season of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, but still.

If you wanted more from Cyberpunk: Edgerunners than what its short and sweet 10-episode season had to offer, we have good news for you. During its 2024 Geeked Week presentation, Netflix announced an all-new animated project set in the world of Cyberpunk 2077. The project will once again be developed in partnership with CD Projekt Red.

Netflix announces all-new Cyberpunk 2077 adaptation

This week, Netflix held a live presentation called ‘Geeked Week’ to run through a few announcements for its upcoming release slate. The streamer showed off new trailers for Arcane and Devil May Cry during the event, but its game-related announcements didn’t end there.

Netflix also announced an all-new animated project set in the world of Cyberpunk 2077, though its release date and creative team is currently unknown. Game developer CD Projekt Red will reteam with Netflix to develop the series, while it continues to work on sequels to Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3.

The announcement was light on details, leaving fans wondering whether the project is planned to be a movie or TV series or some form of continuation to Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. Edgerunners was produced by Japanese animation studio Trigger, but the studio has not been confirmed to return for this mysterious project.

All we know is that the animated project will feature a “return to Night City”, following the success of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and the base game’s Phantom Liberty expansion. A true sequel to Edgerunners will be difficult to develop, considering that it told a full and complete story in its 10-episode run. However, Night City is a big place. There will always be a way for creatives to tell more stories within its boundaries.

A live-action project based on Cyberpunk 2077 is also in the works.
