Ex-Twitch employees say Dr Disrespect messaged a minor on Twitch, causing his 2020 ban.

Former Twitch employees are now offering an explanation for Dr Disrespect’s sudden ban from Twitch back in 2020. According to the ex-employees, Herschel ‘Guy’ Beahm, who goes by the persona Dr Disrespect while streaming, was caught by the company messaging a minor with plans to meet at TwitchCon. The streamer allegedly used Twitch’s now-defunct messaging system called Whispers to text the underage person.

Herschel ‘Guy’ Beahm, AKA Dr Disrespect was banned from Twitch in June 2020. His channel was completely wiped from the platform following the ban, which was reported to be permanent - a rumour yet to be disproven in the four years that have passed since. No specific reason for the ban was ever given to the public, save for a vague statement from Beahm saying that, “No party admits to any wrongdoing.”

A former Twitch employee named Cody Conners recently posted on X/Twitter to confirm that, “He got banned because got caught sexting a minor in the then existing Twitch whispers product. He was trying to meet up with her at TwitchCon. The powers that be could read in plain text.” He then went on to say that, “No one made the wrong decision.” Conners did not specifically name Dr Disrespect in the post, but more ex-Twitch employees seemed to corroborate the information on social media afterwards.

The Verge also reported that an anonymous former Twitch employee confirmed with them that Beahm used Whispers to, “exchange messages with a minor and initiate a conversation about meeting up at TwitchCon,” further lending credence to Conners’ allegations. The employee said that there had been a “significant amount of time,” between the moment Beahm and the unnamed minor exchanged messages, and the moment a moderation report regarding those messages was filed.

Beahm responded to the claims by saying on Twitter/X that, “This has been settled, no wrongdoing was acknowledged, and they paid out the whole contract." He continued in another post, “I didn’t do anything wrong, all this has been probed and settled, nothing illegal, no wrongdoing was found, and I was paid.” The streamer has made no further statements on these allegations.
