Beyond Good & Evil is getting a 4K remaster ahead of its sequel.
Ubisoft has officially announced a 4K remaster of Beyond Good & Evil, launching just in time for its 20th anniversary. Beyond Good & Evil - 20th Anniversary Edition will update the original game’s controls, audio and visuals when it launches next week, featuring additional content that ties the game to its long-awaited sequel Beyond Good and Evil 2.

Beyond Good & Evil gets 4K remaster with new story content
Beyond Good & Evil - 20th Anniversary Edition is launching on June 25, bringing Ubisoft’s classic adventure game to modern platforms with updated visuals, controls and more. This remaster took Ubisoft a puzzlingly long time to announce, considering that fans have known of its existence since late 2023, when Ubisoft+ subscribers were accidentally given early access to the game for a brief period of time.
The 20th Anniversary Edition runs at up to 4K resolution and 60fps, with modernised controls and a few new quality of life features. The game also has a new treasure hunt and Speedrun Mode, along with an anniversary gallery. The anniversary gallery contains previously unreleased making-of videos and artwork from the game’s developers. The treasure hunt surprisingly ties into this game’s long-awaited sequel Beyond Good and Evil 2, with cosmetic rewards relating to Jade’s past and the sequel’s pirates.
Beyond Good & Evil - 20th Anniversary Edition will also add autosaving, cross-saves, the ability to skip cutscenes and remapped controls. Here’s how Ubisoft describes the game’s story, for anyone who hasn’t played it before:
As Jade - a penniless young photographer/lighthouse keeper/orphan caregiver/martial artist - players will set out alongside her adoptive uncle Pey'j to explore Hillys, a watery planet under constant threat from the DomZ aliens. Initially looking to use Jade's photography skills to document local wildlife and earn enough to keep the lights on, the two quickly find themselves recruited by a clandestine news network working to expose the truth behind the DomZ attacks.
Beyond Good & Evil - 20th Anniversary Edition launches on June 25 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Switch, PC and Amazon Luna. Beyond Good and Evil 2 on the other hand, is looking more and more like vapourware by the day. The last time Ubisoft showed off the game was in 2018, with a developer video featuring unfinished gameplay. The sequel was first announced in 2008.
