Hiroyuki Oomori, the producer for the hit anime series Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure and many others, has passed away.
The death of producer Hiroyuki Oomori was disclosed by Warner Bros. Japan through email correspondence last Sunday, 17 June.
No other details were disclosed.
Hiroyuki Oomori had a widely celebrated career as producer to various hit anime series like When They Cry - Higurashi, Umineko - When They Cry, Hi Score Girl, and Highschool of the Dead. However, Oomori’s biggest success was with Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, which he produced all 5 seasons of.
Originating from an equally popular manga series by Hirohiko Araki, Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure follows the life of the Joestar family in an alternate world where people can harness their supernatural powers. The show earned many accolades after its debut season in 2012, even landing a spot in Polygon’s list of “Best Anime of the Decade” for the 2010s.
Oomori also acted as executive producer to Gainax’s final anime, Wish Upon the Pleiades.
Besides working as a producer, Oomori was also a planning assistant for Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? During its third and fourth seasons.
The last show that Oomori worked on is the upcoming Suicide Squad Isekai, an animated series revolving around the misadventures of DC comics characters Harley Quinn, The Joker, and the Suicide Squad in Isekai, a magical and mysterious world. The series will air its first episode on 27 June.
