Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 finally reveals its Campaign, Multiplayer and Zombies modes.
Developers Treyarch and Raven Software have fully revealed Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, diving into its three main components: the Campaign, Multiplayer and Zombies modes. During this week’s Xbox Games Showcase, Activision showed off, “the most breathtaking and spectacular Black Ops action to date,” wherein the publisher promises to deliver an epic globetrotting campaign and new gameplay mechanics for Multiplayer.
Here’s the reveal trailer:
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6’s campaign detailed
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6’s campaign picks the story up after the events of Black Ops Cold War. Set in the 1990s, the spy thriller campaign will combine stealth and action-packed missions for a plot that takes players across Russia, the Middle East, southern Europe, and the United States. Frank Woods and Russell Adler will return to the main cast, joined by new characters Troy Marshall and Jane Harrow.
During the events of the Gulf War, Frank Woods is adjusting to a new role in the CIA after suffering a traumatic injury. His new protege Troy Marshall and the CIA handler Jane Harrow are forced to work together when an operation goes wrong, forcing Woods and Marshall to go rogue. The duo form their own team of rogue agents, including Russell Adler, to face a daunting new enemy.
Much like Black Ops Cold War, Black Ops 6 will have a central base of operations called the Manor. Here, the player will consult the Evidence Board to gather information on current and upcoming missions, and receive briefings from Frank Woods. They can also explore the rest of the mansion, which apparently hosts a few secrets waiting to be uncovered.
Black Ops 6 adds new mechanics to Multiplayer
During the Xbox Games Showcase, Activision stressed its latest Call of Duty innovation: Omnimovement, which allows players to manuever with much more freedom and realism than before. Players can now sprint, slide and dive in any direction (forward, sidestepping, and backpedalling), and they can even chain multiple combat manuevers together to achieve a full 360 degrees range of motion.
Enemies also now have more than double the number of Hit Zone regions than before, allowing for a wider variety of visual takedowns across Campaign and Multiplayer modes. You’ll also see a new set of animation overhauls aimed at connecting the player’s movement to the world around them. For example, their weapons will now dynamically rotate in the direction they move to round a corner or enter a doorway.
Black Ops 6 will feature 16 new Multiplayer maps at launch, with 12 Core 6v6 maps, and four entirely new Strike Maps that can be played 2v2 or in Face Off 6v6. The game will also bring back the classic Prestige system and Theater Mode.
Zombies returns in Black Ops 6
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 brings Zombies back, with two new round-based maps called Terminus and Liberty Falls. The Dark Aether plotline from Black Ops Cold War will also be continued in this sequel, which packs hordes of undead monsters into these new locations with plenty of power-ups to help players out. Classic Zombies elements like powerful weapons, returning power-ups, secrets and easter eggs will be included in the sequel as well. All the previously-mentioned gameplay innovations, like Omnimovement, will also impact this mode.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 launches on October 25, 2024. Check out more announcements and trailers from Xbox Games Showcase 2024 here.
