The tactical RPG Marvel’s Midnight Suns is now free to keep on the Epic Games Store. If you’ve had your eye on XCOM developer Firaxis Games’ Marvel RPG, all you have to do is log into the Epic Games Store before the deal expires on June 13. After that, the game will be rotated out for a new selection of free games.
Marvel’s Midnight Suns is free to keep for a limited time only
If you haven’t logged into the Epic Games Store in a while, you might want to scrounge around for your old password to claim a free copy of Marvel’s Midnight Suns. The 2022 tactical RPG developed by Firaxis Games is the latest free game to be offered on the online store, though it comes without later expansions that added characters like Storm, Deadpool and Venom.
Anyone who’s played Firaxis Games’ tactical game franchise XCOM will be somewhat familiar with the way Midnight Suns plays, though there are some key differences between the two. The game not only has a card-based combat system that allows players to kit out their Marvel characters with different abilities but also a cosy hub area where every character gathers for a bit of social downtime. Some of these characters - like Magik and Blade - can even be romanced.
Even if you’re not romancing your favourite comic book heroes, it pays to build up your relationships with them for the later gameplay benefits. While the deckbuilding mechanic may have repelled a few fans away from the game at first, its Persona-like friendship system, slick visuals and strong characters allow it to stand on its own two feet. Superhero fans might also notice a few actors returning to reprise former roles for this game; Yuri Lowenthal voices Spider-Man after playing Peter Parker in Insomniac’s Spider-Man games, and Lyrica Okano reprises her role as Nico Minoru from the Runaways TV series.
Marvel's Midnight Suns is free to keep until June 13.
