Silent Hill 2 remake gameplay trailer confirms October release date

Konami has released a chunky 13 minute-long gameplay trailer for its Silent Hill 2 remake.

Konami has unveiled a better look at its upcoming Silent Hill 2 remake, which is in development at Bloober Team. While the game’s last few trailers have focused on its story and combat, today’s newly-released gameplay footage hones in on its atmosphere, supporting cast and creepy monsters. The trailer also revealed that Silent Hill 2 will launch on October 8, 2024 - just in time for Halloween.

Early previews of Bloober Team (Blair Witch, Layers of Fear)’s remake of Silent Hill 2 were met with no small amount of criticism from fans online, to the point that some worried that this iconic survival horror game might not get the remake it deserves. It doesn’t help that Konami has chosen to market the game sporadically over the last two years, leaving fans mostly in the dark about how it was shaping up.

This week however, we got a meaty 13 minute-long gameplay trailer for the Silent Hill 2 remake, following protagonist James Sunderland as he investigates the titular town while chasing after a child. The town itself retains its atmospheric fog from the original, only allowing players to view their surroundings a few meters at a time. A lot of effort has clearly been put into realising the town’s spooky interiors as well, with ramshackle buildings close to falling apart, brimming with creatures like grotesque nurses and acid-spitting cadavers.

The trailer sees James wander into one broken-down building after another, before touring Brookhaven Hospital as he chases after a girl. Konami also released a more story-focused trailer for the game during this week’s State of Play presentation:

Silent Hill 2 launches on October 8, and will be playable on PlayStation 5 and PC. Unfortunately, there’s still no word on Konami’s two other Silent Hill games in development: Silent Hill F and Silent Hill: Townfall.
